Ron Paul Announces 2012 Presidential Run

Ron Paul announced his candidacy for a 2012 run for the Republican party on Good Morning America yesterday, May 13th.

Full annoucement in New Hampshire:

Texas Representative Ron Paul had recently launched an exploratory committee for President, making the decision final yesterday in New Hampshire. He cited growing support for his libertarian views as well as raising $1 million on the day of the South Carolina Republican Presidential Debate for being the deciding factors.

Ron Paul Wins Preliminary Polls, Fox News Misreports

Several weeks ago Ron Paul overwhelmingly won the CPAC poll where he won 30% of the votes. He also came in third in the Tea Party Patriot’s Arizona straw poll just days ago, and finished third online, bringing in 581 out of 1,600 votes. Herman Cain came in second, followed by Palin in third. Paul finished with approximately 36%. While these polls are not considered determinants of 2012 presidential candidates, they do have some value in showing who could be the possible front-runners or nominees. Though Paul hasn’t announced his 2012 candidacy, he already has huge support urging him for a 2012 presidential run. Supporters even launched a President’s Day moneybomb, meant to encourage Ron Paul to run for president. The moneybomb raised over $700,000 in 24 hours.

Here is his speech after winning the CPAC 2011 poll:

In his speech he mentions the idea of giving 10% of your earnings to completely opt out of the federal government. Umm, hell yes, I’d take that!

Fox News is often the target of accusations of bias and even intentionally misleading views. While botched news performance cannot account for all of these accusations, take a look at the below footage and let me know what you think.

It appears to be an intentional deception, presumably with the intent of making Ron Paul look less supported than he actually is.

Here is additional analysis:

Fox clearly shows the wrong CPAC footage in response to Ron Paul’s speech. They show the 2010 CPAC footage instead of the 2011 CPAC footage. Though Paul won the poll both years, Fox chose to incorrectly air the footage from the previous year that reflected negatively on Paul due to booing, whereas the 2011 footage is much more supportive.

Fox’s anchor Bill Hemmer event went so far as to ask Paul if he knew who was booing him, based on the wrong CPAC footage. Fox later claimed it was an honest mistake. While this may be the case, if you’re going to call yourself a journalist, check your facts. What do you think?

Was this an honest error or an intentional attempt to shape public opinion?

Please Support Ron Paul’s Audit the Fed Initiative – HR459 and S202

Over the past several months, Dr. Ron Paul has made it his personal mission to take on the Federal Reserve. Clearly, it is an issue that is important to him, as is evident by his scores of TV interviews on the matter, his bestselling book End The Fed, and his surprisingly popular bill HR-1207, which supports an “audit” of the Federal Reserve.

Recently, Congressman Paul was also appointed chairman of a subcommittee to oversee the federal reserve. While this position seems to have been overstated in it’s importance, it is a valuable platform for someone so passionate about monetary reform and has strengthened his voice supporting a full and public audit of the Federal Reserve bank.

Dr. Paul and his recently-elected son, Rand Paul, have reintroduced legislation into both houses of Congress – HR459 and S202 (originally HR1207 and S604). The support for this bill has been continuously building. The bill has hundreds of cosponsors. With our current economic situation and with the Federal Reserve printing money at will, we’ve never had a better time to pass such legislation. This initiative has a real chance of passing. Ben Bernanke and the Federal Reserve can print money at will, despite growing debt, without any oversight of Congress. Bailouts of private business and printing money despite growing debt is a clear recipe for financial disaster in our country. If you think the recent recession was bad, I fear, unless something is done, our economy will take a plunge much more severe. For more information on the Audit the Fed bill(s), check out AuditTheFed.com, which provides information on the bill, a petition, and tools to contact your local representatives about this bill.

The Campaign or Liberty has created a separate petition where you can encourage your Congressman to support a full audit of the Federal Reserve.

From the Campaign For Liberty’s petition:

“Audit the Fed”
Petition to Congress

Whereas: Congress has the authority to perform a public audit of the Federal Reserve, and the American people deserve to know how their tax dollars are being spent; and
Whereas: The Federal Reserve refuses to publicize its meetings and its inner-workings or even to account for $2 TRILLION in recent taxpayer-backed loans; and
Whereas: Allowing such secrecy to continue clearly allows for the potential for abuse; and
Whereas: The Federal Reserve System leads to constant economic crises like the current housing crisis and the resulting chaos; and
Whereas: The Federal Reserve System forces fuel, food, housing, medical care and education costs upward, meaning that everyone who is NOT on the government dole is forced to make do with less as the value of their money slowly decreases; and
Whereas: History shows us that riots, violence and full-scale police states can result when people finally realize fiat money isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on and REFUSE to accept it;
Therefore: In the interest of a healthy economy and more transparent government, I urge you to cosponsor the Audit the Fed Bill and seek a vote in the House.

Again, you can sign this petition here. If you support transparency in government and think we have a right to know how our money is being spent you should support this bill.

There is no reason I can think of not to support Ron Paul’s audit of the federal reserve. Even if you disagree with Dr. Paul’s view on ending the Federal Reserve, supporting and audit of the Federal Reserve and encouraging transparency can do no harm. Please take a moment to voice your support for these bills with your Congressmen.

On topic, Ron Paul recently addressed the House of Representatives, where he discusses the problems with the Federal Reserve, including it’s lack of transparency, how it creates economic problems such as inflation and unemployment, and how the Federal Reserve “facilitates deficit financing. Watch CSPAN’s video here:

At approximately 4:15 – “It’s the Federal Reserve. They are the ones who literally facilitate deficit financing. So for them to turn around and say it’s all the blame of the Congress, the are absolutely being disingenuous. It’s the Federal Reserve and the monetary system that encourages runaway deficits, runway spending, runaway militarism and runaway welfare-ism.”

At approximately 5:50 - “It was never meant for the Federal Reserve to have free reign and not have any oversight whatsoever. And we have to realize that this whole issue of central banking is not a new issue. It was here from the very beginning. Hamilton and Jefferson argued about it, Jefferson and Jackson, and many others were absolutely opposed to central banking . So it’s not a new issue, but there is no authority in the Constitution that grants this right to have a central bank and to create money out of thin air just to accommodate the politicians. We have a right and an obligation and a responsibility for oversight of the Federal Reserve. And our responsibility is to look at bad policy. The Federal Reserve is responsible for the inflation, and the business cycle, the unemployment – it is up to us to do something about it.”

According to Dr. Paul, the Federal Reserve has hired lobbyists and launched a Public Relation campaign for support their position.

I think it’s clearly a necessity for us to have transparency with an independent bank that can print money at will without any Congressional oversight.

An Open Letter to Ron Paul

Dear Dr. Paul,

To start, I would like to thank you on the behalf of the millions of Americans who have been touched by your message of liberty. The principles you stand for, and also the very same principles millions of other Americans share, are ingrained deeply in what it means to be American, despite our country swaying from these very principles. I am inspired at your dedication of the past thirty years. I applaud your Campaign For Liberty, and I hope it remains a lasting legacy of your values. You have inspired many.

As the 2012 election approaches, much of our country is already beginning to talk of what the election will bring. Predictably, media outlets focus on the spotlight neoconservatives and our current President. Some say that disappointment in President Obama gives room for a Republican candidate to have a legitimate shot at election. They talk of Barrack Obama, Mitt Romney, and Sarah Palin well before primary elections or before anyone has even announced their candidacy. I do not believe it is far-fetched that the media, through such promotions, is trying to manipulate public opinion. None of these potential candidates have the devotion we have. No candidate has been able to raise more money in a single day than you have. In 2012, we will set a new record. Doctor, I’m amazed, because daily I meet more and more people who support you and support the principles of liberty we stand for. I would go as far as to say that most people – at least those who care – feel this way. Americans are legitimately upset by the new TSA regulations, buy the big-government bills that decrease our freedom, by the drug war, and by the addiction of reckless spending our government can’t seem to self-manage. I think the problem is they don’t know what they can do about it. However, caring – getting angry – is the first step. This gives me hope.

When I heard that the chances of you running for President in 2012 “were at least 50-50,” I was greatly encouraged. Dr. Paul, please run; we need you. America needs you. The monstrosities in Congress must be stopped, must be reversed, and in a political era where compromise and big government are worshiped, we need your leadership. Perhaps with a libertarian as President, other members of Congress will see that the ideas of liberty do in fact resound with the American people, and as a result maybe, just maybe, we can begin to rebuild the country they’ve been tearing down.

With your proven track record, I’m confident that if elected, you will stick by these principles of liberty and self-ownership. I’m sure some of the first issues you will address will be our foreign policy and our monetary policy. These need to be addressed, particularly because they may be at the roots of many of our problems. I do ask, Doctor, that once you’ve made it to the White House, fight for all the principles that make up liberty. I know this will be a tireless, never-ending battle, but it must be fought. Fight for self-ownership. Balance the budget. Bring our troops home. End the drug war. Bring transparency to the government. Reduce the power of special interest in Washington. Take measures to reduce the police state, and prevent further infringements in the years to come. I believe if the peaceful fight is not fought today, it will take a violent revolution in times of great tyranny for us to return to our American principles.

Dr. Paul, I believe you can win in 2012. So do many, many supporters. The support you received in 2008 was honorable – in 2012 it will be much greater. Once you announce your candidacy, we both know there will be supporters working daily to further the cause. I will be among them. Americans are waking up. We’ll tell everyone we know about what you stand for and how a free society is supposed to be run. I have a very good feeling about your 2012 presidential run, should you choose to do so. I hope you do. I pray you do.

We need you, Dr. Paul.

Sincerely,

Daniel Quitschau

The Campaign For Liberty Surpasses 100,000 Members

Recently, Ron Paul’s Campaign For Liberty surpassed its 100,000 member goal. While the group didn’t meet its goal by September 2nd as it hoped, it only fell short by a few days. Thi100,000 member mark is yet another milestone in our fight for freedom.

The fact that the Campaign For Liberty has gained so many members in such a short time is evidence that the message of freedom and liberty continue to resonate in the hearts and minds of the American people. We need to unite today to spread the message of liberty and to elect officials that share our view of freedom.

Additionally, the Rally For the Republic drew over 84,000 viewers from 91 countries. This shows that the message of liberty isn’t exclusive to the United States. The actual event, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, drew over 12,000 people. Ron Paul’s Rally For the Republic speech was one of the greatest I’ve ever heard, and is bound to be a historic event. Please take time to watch it here.

Additionally, the Campaign For Liberty released a notice saying that Ron Paul will speak at the National Press Club at 10:00 am this Wednesday. This will be a “special announcement.” The CFL states, “Dr. Paul will announce his intentions for the fall presidential election and will be accompanied by several special guests.” Ron Paul supporters are already speculating on what that could mean. Most likely it will involve the next step of the Campaign For Liberty. He may endorse Bob Barr, Chuck Baldwin, or both of them. Some people have suggested that this could be an even bigger announcement; the Constitution Party and the Libertarian party could merge, or Ron Paul could run for President. Both of these are extremely improbably and nothing more than wishful thinking. Regardless, hopefully Wednesday will be something big enough to shake the foundation of this two party system. Several other third party candidates will be attending, so it seems likely that this press release could involve some method of involving third parties in the debates. The Campaign For Liberty could potentially be hosting a debate that would include third party candidates.

As we look forward to Dr. Paul’s annoucement this Wednesday, let us take pride in the fact that our movement is gaining momentum. The 100,000 member mark for the Campaign For Liberty is a fantastic milestone, but is only one of many more to come. Godspeed, friends of liberty.
